Benito Izzo, of Killingworth, CT, and formerly a long-time resident of West Haven, CT, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on November 14, 1939, in Italy, Benito grew up surrounded by the traditions he would carry with him throughout his life. It was there that he met the love of his life, Lucia Armellino-Izzo, beginning a partnership rooted in devotion, hard work, and the joy of bringing people together.
A gifted restaurateur with a true passion for hospitality, Benito owned Massimo’s Lanterna Rosa in North Haven for 15 years before he and Lucia settled in West Haven, where together they opened Stephania, a beloved pizzeria and deli. Lucia’s talent for authentic Italian cooking and her gift for making every guest feel like family inspired Benito’s dedication to the culinary arts. Their restaurant became a gathering place where good food, warm laughter, and genuine connection were always on the menu.
Benito is preceded in death by his treasured wife, Lucia, and their son, Paul Izzo. He is survived by his 5 Children; Massimo “Max” Izzo, Sergio (Anne) Izzo, Maria Rosa (John) Izzo-Fox, Raffaella (Steven) Gagliardi, Stefania (Evan) Larry. He also leaves behind 11 beloved grandchildren: Massimo “Max” Izzo Jr., Paul Izzo, Danny Izzo, Samantha Izzo, Emily Izzo, John Fox Jr., Nicholas Benito Fox, Giana Gagliardi, Natalia Gagliardi, Lucia Larry, and Evan Jr. Larry, as well as two step-grandchildren, Ronnie and Anthony Izzo.
Benito found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He nurtured a love for gardening and took great pride in crafting homemade wine and grappa—treasures he happily shared with family and friends. His wines sparked countless memories, stories, and celebrations, becoming part of the fabric of family gatherings through the years.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Seacrest of West Haven, CT, for the compassion and care they showed Benito in his final days.
As we celebrate Benito’s life, family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Swan Funeral Home, 80 East Main Street, Clinton, CT. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Lawrence Cemetery, Derby Avenue, West Haven, CT.
Benito will be remembered for his generous spirit, his devotion to family, and the warmth he shared with all who knew him. His legacy continues in the love, traditions, and unforgettable memories he leaves behind.
