She was born on January 6, 1933, in New Britain, the daughter of John and Jennie (Balavick) Sparkowski.
She could often be seen on her sun porch or at the Estuary, playing bridge with her friends. She had a love of animals and had developed a close relationship with many of the birds who made their home in the salt marsh behind her home. Daily, they flocked to her back yard to enjoy a bountiful feast of seeds and fruit which she provided without fail.
Geraldine is survived by her son Jonathan Brandl and his wife Barbara Levine of Newton, MA; daughter Shelley Vece of Shelbyville, IN, four grandchildren, Katie Brandl of New York City, Max Brandl at the University of Michigan, Scott Rogers of Los Angeles, California and Brady Rogers of Chicago, Illinois. She had many friends but was especially close to Sharon Mitchell-Lessard and Jim Robertson who were very dear to her.
She was predeceased by her son Alan Brandl.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation in her name be made to the National Audubon Society.
