

Joan Kilgour Van Tienen, 71, beloved wife of Jeffrey Van Tienen, died on May 21 after a brief illness. She was born on June 15, 1941 in Newburgh, New York, daughter of the late Irv and Lola Kilgour. Joan graduated from Newburgh Free Academy and attended New Paltz State College. She was retired from the Guilford Library and had been a co-president of the Mystic Calligraphers Guild.
Joan was a member of the Clinton Historical Society. She enjoyed quilting, crafts, and gardening. She also enjoyed sailing, exploring the coastline, trips to Cape Cod with Jeff, and she was a great lover of antiques.
Joan married Jeffery Van Tienen in 1978. She was a devoted wife and mother who cherished time spent with her family. Joan was a light-hearted woman with a loving, gentle nature and a great sense of humor.
Her family thanks the 7th Floor Hospice Unit and 4th Floor staff at Middlesex Hospital for their wonderful care.
Besides her husband, Joan is survived (and will be dearly missed) by her son David Kilgour Goodrich and his wife Bonnie of Highland, New York; her daughter Joy Goodrich Walker and her fiancé Kevin O’Brien of Walden, New York; her brother William Kilgour of Concord, Vermont; and her sister Robin Kilgour of Gainesville, Florida. She is also survived by her grandson Daniel John Walker; her mother-in-law Betty Van Tienen of Clinton; her niece and nephew, Melanie and Jason Kilgour; an adored aunt, Carmen Doody; her cousins, Jean Reed and Mary Monaco and their families; and several dearly loved friends.
Visiting hours will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, at the Swan Funeral Home in Clinton. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Clinton Historical Society Gardens.
