John was born in Manchester, CT on September 25, 1943 to the late Thomas and Margaret Waugh McKenna. He was a graduate of Manchester High School and the University of New Haven. He worked for SNET and AT&T, retiring in 2010 after more than 45 years of service in Outside Plant, Sales, Accounting, and IT Project Management. John will be remembered for his sense of humor, his passion for cooking and listening to music, and his handyman skills around the house and yard. He found enjoyment in his many trips to Maine and Florida and loved his outdoor activities including golf, being on the water despite his seasickness, and in his younger days, biking, skiing, and tennis. John was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts, Madison Girls Softball, and Habitat for Humanity. John loved nothing more than sitting on his front porch or back patio enjoying a gin and tonic with his family on a warm, sunny day. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Scott McKenna of Colchester, CT; James McKenna of Tolland, CT; Shawn McKenna (Maureen) of Fairfield, CT; Kara McKenna (John Fries) of West Hartford, CT; Katherine McKenna of Madison, CT; and John McKenna (Alicia) of Branford, CT.
