

Mark A. Lawrie Age: 85, husband of Caroline S. Lawrie, since 1953 of Westbrook passed away peacefully on February 21, 2016 at Apple Rehab after a long illness. Mark was born in 1931 to the late Gertrude (Kadue) and Lee Lawrie Jr. He was the grandson of noted sculptor, Lee Lawrie who was known for his Atlas at Rockefeller Plaza; The Sower on the State Capitol of Nebraska and work on the Bok Singing Tower in Lake Wales Florida.
He graduated from New Britain High School in 1949 and attended Hartwick College.
Mark married Caroline Steinson in 1953 and they made their home in Westbrook, CT. He was a devoted husband and father who cherished time spent with family. Mark was employed by UARCO Inc. of Deep River, CT retiring in 1994 after 37 years.
Some of his favorite past times were fishing, lobstering, woodworking, and reading. He was a member of SX Sportsman’s Club.
In addition to his wife, Caroline, he is survived and will be dearly missed by his children Mark Jr., and his wife Sheryl of Westbrook; Christopher of Chester; Lisa Huish and husband Bruce of Oregon; Jeffrey and his wife Lori of Chester; Todd and his wife Lisa of Westbrook.
He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; Mark III, Robert and Abigail; Max, Timothy, Whitney and Samantha; Hunter; Joshua, Hannah and Noah; Amber, Phil, Justin, Tara and Zachary;.
He is also survived by his sister, Jean Ely; sister in law, Virginia Tomassetti; brother in laws Thomas Steinson and Robert Steinson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mark’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to Apple Rehab’s and Middlesex Hospital Hospice Unit staff for their wonderful care and kindness during his stay at the Old Saybrook facility.
A Visiting Hour from 1 to 2 pm followed by a Memorial Service at 2 will be held on Saturday, March 19,, 2016 at Swan Funeral Home, Clinton.
In lieu of flower donations in his memory may be made to Middlesex Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care and Westbrook Ambulance Assoc.
