Robert Charles Serviss entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 21, 2016 after a long and difficult illness. “Uncle Bob” as he was affectionately known by friends and boating neighbors was an incredibly generous and congenial person and loved by everyone who knew him. Bob is survived by his loving wife Patricia of Killingworth, his son Scott (Melissa) of Clinton, and his son Robert (Abbie) of Clinton. Bob leaves behind his grandchildren whom he loved to take out on his boat; Sarah, Matthew, Mary, Sophia, and Arabella. He is also survived by his brother and best friend, David of Madison and his nieces and nephews and their children; Donna Lynn (Roger, Katie), Sheryl (Chrissie), Christine (Anthony, Matthew, Anthony), Mark, and Robbie (Robbie). Bob is predeceased by his father, David; mother, Catherine; his stepfather, Dominic; and his stepmother, Nata.
Bob was born and raised in New Haven Connecticut. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. For most of his career, Bob was a sales engineer, and a commercial pilot. Bob was an avid boater, who could be found any day of the week rain or shine on his beloved boat, “Catherine”.
After settling in Clinton in the late sixties Bob became involved in community and state politics at an early age. He served as president and senator of the Jaycees, co-founded Shoreline Big Brothers, was a selectman for the Town of Clinton, and was a member of the Elks Club of Westbrook. He was a real estate investor and owner and founder of the Pumpkin Patch childcare centers with his wife, Patty. Bob will be sorely missed by his enormous circle of family and friends.
The family is grateful to the hospice center at Middlesex Hospital for their loving care of Bob in his final days and to the team of doctors who have been by his side for many years.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 4-7 pm at the Swan Funeral home in Clinton. The funeral will be held at 10 am on August 26, 2016 at St. Mary's Church of the Visitation in Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Wounded Warriors Foundation or to the Hospice and Palliative Care at Middlesex Hospital.
