
Cecil H. Smith, 83, died Monday, December 03rd, 2012 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He was a native of Green County, Mississippi, but grew up in Jackson and spent the last 61 years in Clinton. He was the son of the late S. Carl Smith and Ora Lee Walley Smith.
Mr. Smith graduated from Central High School and from Millsaps College in Jackson. He worked with Deposit Guaranty National Bank from high school until he retired forty-three years later, having served in most major departments of the bank. He retired as a Sr. Vice President of the bank. Active in community and civic affairs, Smith served many years in the Kiwanis Club of Jackson, the American Red Cross, Sales and Marketing Executives, the International Ballet Competition and others. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton. An avid outdoorsman, his favorite hobby was deer hunting.
Smith is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joyce Lee Turner Smith (Joy) of Clinton; two sons, Cecil Bradford Smith (Teresa) of Shannon, MS, Barry Turner Smith (Jennifer) of Clinton; three daughters, Pamela Zapletal (Gene) of Houma, LA, Tanya Frazier (Steve) of Clinton and Jan Holland of Madison, MS; a sister, Norma Doris Reid of Vicksburg; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a niece and several nephews.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 06th at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, with Dr. Bill R. Baker officiating. Burial will follow immediately afterward at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery on Clinton Blvd. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 05th at the Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton and for one hour prior to the services on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to send memorials may send them to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101, or to the charity of their choice.
