She is survived by her six children: Peter D. Shaw (Cynthia), John J. Shaw (Dixie), Mary J. Moore (Alf), Stephen G. Wilder (Nancy), Andrew B. Wilder, and Jill M. Winters (Mark); five loving grandchildren: Katharine J. Nicholson (Andrew), Sarah J. Cantin (Shawn), Megan A. Chornoboy (Walter), Erik A. Wilder, and Samantha J. Wilder; five great-grandchildren: Matthew and Caleb Nicholson, Felix and Rosemary Cantin, and Walter Chornoboy. Alma was predeceased by her husbands, Daile Shaw in 1956, and Gillis Wilder in 2018.
Alma was a preschool teacher with the Farmington Public Schools in Farmington, Michigan. She lived her faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, by nurturing children as a Sunday School teacher at Redford Baptist Church in Redford, Michigan and continued her service at Greenland Baptist Church in Corbin, Kentucky.
Alma was born in Chaput Hughes, Ontario, Canada and moved to Detroit, Michigan with Gillis after their marriage on December 31, 1959. Following their retirement in 1990, they returned to Gillis’ hometown in Corbin, Kentucky. She will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, who truly loved and cared for her family. Being surrounded by them brought her great joy.
While she will be greatly missed, we are comforted knowing that she is at peace and has gone home to Heaven. A memorial service will be planned for Spring 2023 where she will be interred alongside of her husband, Gillis, at Ryan Cemetery in Corbin Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Greenland Baptist Church Corbin, Kentucky or Crosspointe Meadows Church, Novi, Michigan.
