Born on September 7, 1946, in Hamtramck, Michigan, Anthony was the son of Stanley and Antoinette Houle and was one of ten children. On October 28, 1967, he married Susan Czech, and together they raised four children: Edward, Jacquelyn, Steven, and Andrea.
Anthony proudly served his country in both the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard. His initial service in the Air Force came about during the Vietnam conflict in the mid sixties. Following that, Anthony dedicated 37 years of service to Selfridge Air National Guard Base, retiring with honor. He had a love for airplanes and aviation which never waned, and he was passionate about attending air shows. Throughout his life, Anthony’s commitment to his military service remained a significant part of his identity.
He was also known for his love of family traditions and holiday celebrations. No matter the occasion, Anthony’s approach to decorating was always grand, embodying his “go big or go home” attitude. Whether it was finding the largest Halloween pumpkin or the most impressive Christmas tree, Anthony made sure every holiday was memorable for his family. His generosity extended beyond his own family; he was always ready to lend a hand or offer support to those in need.
A man of great humor, Anthony had a playful side that endeared him to all. He loved teasing friends and family in good fun and was quick to share a joke or witty remark. But underneath the jokes, those closest to him knew he was deeply compassionate, especially when it came to his beloved grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Anthony had a love for the arts, particularly musicals and plays, and was an avid fan of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. He also enjoyed spending time watching the History Channel, always eager to learn more about the world around him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. Anthony is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susan Houle; children Edward Houle, Jacquelyn (Ron) Thalgott, Steven (Rebecca) Houle, and Andrea (Brian Couchman) Houle-Furnas; grandchildren Elizabeth, Bailey (Amanda), Megan, Jack, Clara, and Harley; and great-granddaughter Josephine.
