

Arlene Ann Hicks, a devoted educator and beloved member of her community, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of passion, creativity, and dedication to learning. She was the loving wife of the late Richard Hicks, with whom she shared 41 wonderful years of marriage built on love, partnership, and cherished memories.
Arlene devoted 30 years of her life to shaping young minds as a science teacher in the Grosse Pointe school system. Known for her enthusiasm and innovative teaching style, she inspired generations of students to develop a love for science and curiosity about the world around them. Her exceptional work in the classroom earned her numerous accolades, including the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, presented by former Michigan Governor John Engler. Her impact reached far beyond her classroom, even earning her recognition on the front cover of Science Education Magazine, a testament to her creativity and influence in the field of education.
Following her retirement, Arlene continued her commitment to helping others succeed by founding her own business, My Private Tutor. Through this endeavor, she provided personalized guidance and support to students, further extending her lifelong mission of education and mentorship.
Arlene will be remembered for her warmth, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to her students and community. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, inspired, and encouraged throughout her remarkable career.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation will be held at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township, on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm.
