Bridget Catherine Cole, age 92, of Westland, passed away March 11, 2015. She was born January 2, 1923 in Ireland. She worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist for the Wayne County Medical Records. She is survived by her children Kevin (Joan), Timothy, Bridget and the late Erin, Gary and Michael. She is the grandmother to Benjamin (deceased), Patrick, Michael, Jason, Colleen, Christopher, Ryan, Kelsey, Sean, Shaina and Casey.
Bridet Catherine Cooke was born at home in Kilkieran, County Galway, Ireland. In 1929, she moved to Detroit with her parents, John and Catherine Cooke. Bridget had one sibling, her brother, Patrick Cooke. As a child, Bridget was a natural athlete who excelled in softball on her school league. She also participated in many other school activities. Her favorite hobby was reading. She graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in 1941 and was the second one in her family from Ireland to graduate from high school. One of her favorite classes was gym. After high school, she married Donald Lester Cole in 1943 in a civil ceremony in Detroit, Michigan. They had six children, Erin, Gary, Kevin, TImothy, Michael and Bridget. Later, they were grandparents to eleven grandchildren. Her grandchildren were Benjamin (deceased), Patrick, Michael, Jason, Colleen, Christopher, Ryan, Kelsey, Sean, Shaina and Casey. Her great grandchildren were Teagan, Rylan and Aidan. As time went on, Bridget became lifelong friends with Millie Arena, Mary Lou Leverenz and Rose "Cheech",. Bridget worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist at Wayne County Hospital in the Medical Records Division. Her hobbies were reading and participating in family activities. Later, her recreational sports included bowling. Her favorite TV sports were baseball and football. In her adult life, she was active in the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) organization, serving on several committees. One of her greatest achievements was winning the award for "Greatest Mom Ever". Her favorite vacations included visiting her children in California. Bridget's favorite pet of 14 years was her dog, Auggie Doggie. Bridget retired in 1995 and remained in Westland, Michigan. She continued her lifelong activities of reading , visiting her family, social activities and always "looking her best". Bridget's last days were spent in Hospice at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan. She died of a massive stroke at the age of 92. She is survived by her children Kevin (Joan), Timothy, Bridget and her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Resurrection Funeral Home in Clinton Township, Michigan. She will be missed by all that knew her.
