Bruce Cameron Whyte passed away on December 22, 2025, at the age of 80, after a battle with a surgery-related infection. He was cared for in his home, where he passed surrounded by his favorite music and his loving family.
Bruce was the child of Scottish immigrants and a first generation American. He was born on January 22, 1945, in Grosse Pointe, MI and raised in St. Clair Shores, MI. Bruce went to Lakeview High School where he met his wife, Bebe. They married in 1966 and celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in August 2025. They had two children, Meredith and Alison.
Bruce was a member of the Air Force Reserves for four years, serving as a Loadmaster. He valued his time with the Air Force and ultimately retired from TACOM as a civilian after a 25+ year career in public service.
Bruce was a dedicated Detroit Red Wings fan who could tell you almost anything about Red Wings’ history. He grew up skating and playing hockey on Lake St. Clair and watching games at the Olympia from the standing room only section. He also had a keen interest in American history. You would often find him watching a Ken Burns documentary, or on weekends, CBS Sunday Morning and Meet the Press. Leisure time was spent between the pages of biographies and books on political or military history.
Bruce had a “live and let live” approach to life. He truly believed in minding his own business, unless a helping hand was needed. He was a loyal, family-oriented man who provided stable, consistent, and unconditional love for his wife and children. He will be missed profoundly.
He was predeceased by his parents James and Isabell (Cameron) Whyte and brother Ronald Whyte (Patricia). He is survived by his wife, Bebe Whyte; children, Meredith Whyte and Alison Whyte; sister, Christine DenBaas; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
