Chuck Walden, born March 30, 1933, died on Friday, April 24, 2026. He was 93 years of age.
Born to Emmett and Elizabeth Walden, Charles was the youngest along with his twin sister Nancy. The family moved from rural Tennessee to Michigan; like many other southerners, to seek better opportunities.
Settling in south Warren, the family lived in the Van Dyke area. Chuck attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952. Shortly after high school, Charles received an important letter from Washington DC; an order to report for duty to the US Army. Chuck was drafted during the Korean conflict and reached the rank of Corporal. A proud American, Chuck deeply embraced patriotism. A flag flying outside their house daily.
The Walden’s were church going people, and in the late 1940’s they became charter members of the Van Dyke Church of God. This is where Chuck met Charlotte Jones, and the couple was wed on June 29, 1957.
Chuck and Charlotte were married almost 69 years. This marriage produced four sons: Jeffrey (Roslyn) Walden, (who preceded him in death), Darius (Faith) Walden, Joel (Analiza) Walden, and John (Amanda) Walden. The Walden’s have 11 grandchildren: Terah (Dustin) Seaton, Major (RET) Christos (Jadah) Walden, Ariel (Chuck) Bair, Jesse Walden, Lily (Jacob) Wisner, Cooper Pilot, Lauren Walden, Noah Walden, Abel Walden, Immanuel Walden, and Claire Walden; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Charles was a letter carrier for the USPS for 33 years. He was proud of his multiple awards of being a safe driver. His customers affectionately called him “Charlie” and often showered him with gifts at Christmas. Besides his passionate work for the Lord, Chuck enjoyed vegetable gardening, growing American Beauty roses, traveling, and watching his favorite show Jeopardy.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett & Elizabeth Walden; his brother James Walden; his sisters: Hazel Jones, Azaleigh Weiland, his twin sister Nancy Bunch; and his eldest son, Jeffrey Walden.
