

Clarice Williams passed away on January 2, 2018 at the age of 102. She was the loving wife of the late James Williams for 53 years. She was the beloved mother of Robert Williams, Gregory (Mary Ann) Williams, and the late Edwin (the late Carol) Williams. She was the cherished grandmother of Melissa (Dean) Jones, Rebecca (Todd) Moss, Elizabeth (Matthew) Shaeffer, Emily Williams (Andrew) Guffey, Stephanie Clare Williams, and Melissa Williams. The dear great grandmother of Hannah Clare (Collin) Lane, Emma (Trevor) Holden, Cara (Carson) Outlaw, Griffin Shaeffer, Sarah Moss, Riley Shaeffer, William Shaeffer, Owen Guffey and Ezra Guffey. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Lucius Solomon and Ima Ophelia (Hutson) Bates and her siblings Onesia Margaret Salomon, Benton Hoyt Bates, Macie Mae Coleman, Raymond Conrad Bates, Moses Hutson Bates, Hershel Alton Bates, Lucius Solomon Bates, Jr., and Lenis Geniel Bates.
Clarice was born on a farm in middle Tennessee and moved to Fruitland in western Tennessee at the age of 4. She came to Detroit, at the age of 21, bright eyed and eager to work. Soon after her move to Michigan she met her husband Jim at church. They started a beautiful life together that would span 53 years. They raised their 3 sons in Detroit and watched over the years as the family grew to include 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Clarice was blessed with a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and creating beautiful floral arrangements. She was a devout member of her church and member of the Order of the Eastern Star – Jefferson Chapter. Among Clarice’s greatest joys was gathering her family together no matter how far they has spread across the United States.
Visitation for Clarice will take place on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 3 to 8pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10am at Riverside Fellowship Church, 37838 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. Friends may visit the church at 9:30am.
