David Martin Orzel, affectionately known as Huey, passed away on May 7, 2025, at the age of 67. A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, David lived a life full of heart, laughter, and dedication to those he loved.
David was the beloved husband of Catherine for 45 beautiful years. Together, they built a family rooted in love and support. He was the proud and loving father of Elizabeth Lerchen, Sandra Valdez, Nicholas Orzel (Jillian), and Michelle Orzel. He cherished his role as grandfather to Zachary, Cayden, McKenzie, Wesley, Jace, Finnigan, and Eleanor. He is also survived by his dear brother, Kenneth (Ann) Orzel, sister, Judith (Garry) Moberg, and his brother and sister in laws; James (Julie) Catalina, Linda (David) Popko, David (Vickie) Catalina and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and friends.
After earning two associate degrees in surveying and civil drafting, David began a long and successful career. He worked with ANR Pipeline Company for 20 years before continuing his professional journey at DTE Energy, where he dedicated another 20 years before retiring.
David was a gifted athlete in his youth, excelling in football and baseball. His passion for sports lived on as he coached softball for his daughters and nieces, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. He rarely missed a game, performance, or school event—always showing up with unwavering support and a proud smile.
Whether he was golfing, shooting pool, or enjoying a good nap, David embraced the simple pleasures in life. His unforgettable smile, warm spirit, and endless encouragement left a mark on all who knew him.
In honor of his vibrant personality, the family requests that guests attending services wear the brightest colors they own—no black, please—as a celebration of the light David brought into the world.
A memorial gathering will take place on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. A Memorial Mass will be said on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township. Friends may visit the church on Thursday, beginning at 9:30 am.
