

Forrest E. Mowery, age 90, went quietly to be with the Lord on March 9, 2012 after a long illness. Beloved husband of Marian for 65 years. Dear father of Richard and Barbara (Dick) Shovan and grandfather of Kathy and Kris (Heather) Shovan. Beloved brother to Mary Ellen Mowery.
Mr. Mowery is predeceased by his son Michael; his parents Eugene and Mabel (nee Myers) Mowery and siblings Josephine Torrence, twin sister Faustine Sample and Paul.
Forrest was born Earl Mowery on Thursday, May 21, 1921 in Putneyville, Pennsylvania.
Forrest served during WWII in the army as an anti-tank crewman. He served 19 months in the South Pacific theatre with the 81st Wildcat Division. He was honorably discharged early in 1946 and moved to Michigan later that summer to work in a General Motors plant with his uncle.
He married Marian Peterson on January 23, 1947, in Putneyville, Pennsylvania, and returned to Michigan without her. Later that spring she travelled to Michigan and they set up housekeeping in a trailer on the uncle's property in Harrison Township. Later in 1950 they moved to their present address in Roseville.
Forrest was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church in Clinton Township. He served in a leadership capacity for many years including 9 terms as deacon and for many years the building superintendent.
Visitation Wednesday 3-8 pm at the Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield, Clinton Twp.
Funeral Thursday 10 am with military honors to follow at the funeral home.
Burial Forestlawn Cemetery, Detroit.
