She was born on November 22, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, to Ralph and Virginia Caruso. Gwendolyn was raised in a large family and remained especially close to her siblings Ralph (Diane) Caruso and Paul (Diane) Caruso throughout her life.
Above all, Gwen cherished her role as a devoted wife and loving mother. In addition to caring for her family, she worked as a secretary in a school, where she was known for her kindness, organization, and warm personality.
In her free time, Gwen enjoyed gardening, baking, and reading. She also valued staying active and could often be found practicing yoga and taking walks around her neighborhood. Giving back to her community was important to her, and she volunteered her time at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. Gwen was also a woman of strong Catholic faith and a devoted member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
She is survived by her loving children, Anne Marie Shire and Kathryn (Brady) Stetson; her siblings; and many extended family members, including cherished nieces and nephews.
Gwen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, John “Jack” Shire.
Memorial visitation for Gwen will be held from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48038. A memorial service will commence at 6:00 PM.
