I am so sorry to hear of Mr Massongs' passing. I was hoping to reach out (tho 51 yrs later!) to give him the GREATEST THANKS for His amazing way of teaching Civics class. A class that is rarely, if ever taught in the schools today. I remember a game each class played, it was a bit of how the world operates in conjunction with another in trade for goods and services. (My group took 1st for sure in my class that year!)😊 He was such an amazing Teacher. He made it interesting and worthwhile. Im sorry I didnt REALIZE sooner what I NOW ...SEE today, that a man that taught me, 51 years ago, is WORTH many thanks. To Mr. Massongs' family and friends, I am sorry for your loss, He truly was an amazing teacher. My father did Wastewater Mgmnt at the time, I was able thru, My Father and Mr . Massong, we were able to take a "field trip" (all Civic classes that year) to the Detroit WWTP. My Father (whom  has also passed) forever spoke of that day. Mr. Massong had all the students then write my father a letter about their experience, which My Father kept for many years! He thought of it as one of his Best Times in Life. Mr. Massong was one of my favorite teachers at Ludington.  He was no-nonsense but kind and had a great sense of humor.  His class was my first introduction to how the world works, and where I first learned the word "manganese".  The "Countries" game was the best.  He challenged us to think for ourselves and to participate.  Thank you, Mr. Massong, and may you rest in peace.

To all of the former students that have reached out with fond memories and appreciation of my beloved brother, Jim Massong--THANK YOU. Your words have touched my heart. Jim often shared stories of his favorite classroom moments and occasionally invited me to Ludington Magnet School to judge a Science Fair or a Talent Show. I so admired the easy interchange between teacher and students. His successful education of young minds was a great source of pride for him.

I worked with Jim as a colleague for 12 plus years at Ludington Magnet Middle School. He was an outstanding teacher and a close friend. Probably one of the most important people in my life was my father. He also was an administrator for the Detroit Public Schools system, and his role in helping Jim transition from a previous teaching position to his spot at Ludington, was one of his greatest accomplishments, and I know Jim felt this way as well. Rest in Heaven Mr. Massong. As one of your former students, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a teacher who truly cared. You not only lead your class room but you also taught us how to think outside of the box. The world is a darker place without you in it. 

Deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Massong. He taught me such important lessons about society and formed my early understanding of how vital it is to engage in civic life, something I try hard to do in my personal and professional life today. I am truly grateful to him during my time at Ludington Middle School.

Very sad to hear of Jim passing. We have been neighbors for almost 47 years. He will be missed. Regrettably we are in FL and will not be at the funeral to say one last good-bye

Mr. Massong was my soccer coach for the Scorpions (AYSO Champs 1986 or thereabouts).  He was always kind and encouraging!  God, be with his family through this time.
