Jeffrey Thomas Flanigan, age 56, of Shelby Township, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He was born February 17, 1969 in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Robert Eugene and Mary Ellen (Hattas) Flanigan.
Jeff is retired from KUKA Industries where he was a Machine Builder. A loving father and Uncle, his most enjoyable times were with his children and playing with his Nephews and Nieces.
Jeff was the brother everyone wanted. Smart, kind, strong and fair minded. His brothers and he went hunting every Fall. He looked forward to this time with them and treasured all they experienced.
The most memorable things about Jeff, and what drew people to him, are his smile, which he always had, and his sense of humor.
He met his wife when he was 17 and she was 16 years old. Inseparable from the start, and truly love at first sight, they spent their time together when they weren’t working. Going to the casino, having date nights and movie outings were their favorite past times. They had just started traveling and enjoying the freedom of having grown children.
He grew up in Eastpointe and Detroit and in his late teen years moved with his family to St. Clair Shores. He met his wife there and raised his family with his wife in St. Clair Shores but had a short couple of years in Roseville early on. In 2019 he moved to Shelby Township with his wife and grown children to enjoy retirement in a country like setting.
Jeff was an avid bowler. He was in bowling leagues and looked forward to each new season. He had one 299 game, always eluded by that 300! Whether he had a good night or bad night on the lanes, he just enjoyed the social and sporting aspects of bowling.
Jeff’s favorite hobby was coin hunting. Affectionately known as “Flandog” on The Coin Hunter coin hunting show on TikTok, he and his wife started the “coin off” where they competed with each other to find the most valuable coins.
Taken too soon, his family and friends will fondly recall card games, shooting pool and outside shenanigans during picnics and holidays at his house. He was loved by everyone he met and will be missed terribly by all who knew him.
Jeffrey leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Dawn; their children, Ellie (Paige) Flanigan, Ryan Flanigan; his furbaby, Finnigan; his mother, Mary Ellen Flanigan; his siblings, Robert (Christine) Flanigan, Lisa (Vince) Locricchio, James (the late Shelley) Flanigan, Bill Flanigan; sister-in-laws, Robin (Jason) Vican; his best friend whom he thought of as a brother, John (Crystal) Ortega; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Eugene Flanigan; his in-laws, Chuck and Ginger Mitchell; and a brother-in-law, Tony Chiappini.
