John F. Abeli, age 89 passed away on November 27, 2014. Beloved husband of 58 years to the late Catherine Abeli; Loving father of John E. (Maureen), Nancy (Ed) D’Amore-Chase, Kathleen (Craig) Szachta, Michael (Laura) and the late Daniel; Proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Brother of Helen Rotter and the Late Angeline Abeli. John was a long time Grosse Pointe Woods resident. He was a member of the Senior Men’s Club of Grosse Pointe and the Grosse Pointe Rose Society. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family. He graduated from Cass Tech High School and The University of Detroit, is a WWII Army Veteran and worked as a manager with Federal Mogul. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
