Dr. John Paul Mehall, D.D.S., born August 12, 1933, died June 13, 2012. He was beloved and is survived by many family members and friends, including his 4 children: Chris (Linda), Cathy DeLave (Joe), Margie Roty Neumann (Tom), Patty Payne (Tim) and 13 grandchildren: Kelsey, John, Natalie, Anna, Joey, Eddie, Maddie, Mary, Max, Andrew, Danny, Lucy and Charlie. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis (nee Wilt) and son-in-law Rich Roty. Words are inadequate to describe the fullness of this generous man's life. Taking to heart the LaSallian values of the Christian Brothers and the teachings of his Jesuit educators, he was truly a “Man for Others”. While he had a rewarding 47 year career as a well-loved dentist, he devoted his life to his family, friends and faith. His joy for life encompassed all seasons, as evidenced by his beautiful Easter traditions, incredible summer gardens, fall tailgates in Ann Arbor and huge pumpkins, and extraordinary Christmas trees. He loved and lived life with a passion -- travel, fishing, cookbook collecting, Michigan football, everything DeLaSalle, numerous church activities, and the list goes on . . . Affectionately known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, he was their biggest fan at any and all events and no one could celebrate Christmas like Papa Santa Claus! Selfless and caring, he understood the importance of gathering and celebrating (with a lot of food of course)! His spontaneous outbreaks of "Zippity do dah" and "Wake with the Buttercups" will never be forgotten, nor will the memories of his sense of humor, wonderful grin, playful whistle, "can do" attitude and constant love, support and affection. He will be dearly missed but remembered and loved ALWAYS.
