Lawrence E. Splane, age 82, passed away on October 25, 2024. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Larry’s life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and passion. He met the love of his life, Pam, at Denby High School in Detroit, where their journey together began as high school sweethearts. Recently, they joyfully celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Larry worked side-by-side with his father at Splane Printing, and after his father’s passing, he continued to build and carry on the family business. Outside of his career, Larry’s heart was captivated by his passion for antique Buicks. His prized possession was a 1932 Buick Convertible Roadster, which he collected and restored with great pride. A founding member of the Southeast Michigan Buick Club of America, Larry’s love for cars extended beyond his personal collection—he made sure his family experienced many memorable road trips with the Buick Club.
An avid sports fan, Larry was an all-around athlete who participated in varsity high school swimming and enjoyed bowling, tennis, golf, pickle ball and volleyball. His active lifestyle was matched by his love for travel and vacations with Pam, especially their cherished vacations to Mexico, northern Michigan and visits with out of state friends.
Larry was known for his selflessness and willingness to help others. He was a “fixer” and a problem-solver who wouldn’t hesitate to learn how to make a part if it meant helping someone out. His mechanically-minded nature was always paired with a compassionate heart.
In his later years, Larry battled cancer with courage and was honored to be part of a research study to help find a cure for leukemia, a cause he gave his all. His faith and devotion to his Lutheran beliefs were unwavering, and his life was a testament to his commitment to his values.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Pam; his children, Robin (Dan) Eichhorn, David (Angela) Splane, and Michelle (Patrick) Boyle; and his dear grandchildren, Ashley (Matt) Kelsey, Bradley Eichhorn, Carley Eichhorn, Megan Splane, Jordan Splane, Alexis Ruwart, Alivia Ruwart, Allison Ruwart, Patrick Boyle, Shannon Boyle, and Jack Boyle. He is also the cherished great-grandfather of Matthew and Eli. Larry was a loving brother to Barbara (David) Leeson and the late Lynn (Mary Lou) Splane.
Larry’s legacy is one of kindness, loyalty, and dedication to his family, friends, and faith. His memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege to know and love him.
