“His greatest legacy lives on in the hearts of those he loved.”
November 15, 1950 – August 2, 2025
Michael “Mike” Kim Groszkiewicz, 74, of Sterling Heights, MI, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, surrounded by love.
Born in Chicago, IL, Mike grew up in Wauconda, IL, with his dad, mom and two younger brothers. There he cultivated the values of integrity, discipline, and service that would guide his life.
In 1971, Mike proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving for over two decades and achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3). His military career took him across the globe, with assignments in Germany, Indiana, Texas, and Michigan. His distinguished service earned him the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal.
Following his military retirement, Mike continued his commitment to public service as a Special Agent in Charge for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Over the next twenty years, he led with integrity and dedication in Michigan, Illinois, Colorado, and Virginia, before retiring in 2007 from a distinguished career in federal law enforcement.
Mike was a man of quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering devotion—to his country, his community, and most of all, his family. He found joy in volunteering with the Special Olympics, not only supporting his son, but all the athletes and their families. He loved golf, sharing stories, reading books, music, family vacations and keeping up on current events. His greatest happiness came from cheering on his children and grandchildren at their games, events, and milestones—always present, always proud.
Above all, Mike loved deeply. His heart belonged to his family – his wife, children, grandchildren, and brothers. His love was quiet but powerful, always felt in the way he showed up, listened, guided and gave.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Susan; son, Matthew (Chrissy), daughter, Stefanie (Tim), son, Bradley; and four grandchildren, Samantha, Spencer, Shayden and Sadie who will carry forward his legacy, strength and service. He was preceded in death by his son, Craig. Mike is also survived by his brother, Steve (Kimberly); and the family of his late brother Paul—Patrice and Codi.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Modesta, whose love and guidance shaped the man he became.
A private military honor guard ceremony celebrating Mike’s life and service will be held for family and close friends at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan, on August 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
Mike will be remembered for his unwavering sense of duty, his generous heart, and the love he poured into every role he held—as a soldier, agent, volunteer, husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. He is at peace, reunited with loved ones who went before him, embraced in the eternal love of our Heavenly Father. His spirit lives on in our hearts and we give thanks for the blessing of his life.
