Olive was born in Richmond, Mi. to the late Archie W. Evans and Helen V. Evans and attended high school in New Baltimore where she graduated valedictorian in 1945. At that time, when WWII was still raging, she spoke of open chairs among the graduates in honor of the boys that had been called up to serve. Following graduation Olive moved into the Young Women's Club, Detroit and worked for an airline. She enjoyed seeing national entertainers like Frank Sinatra when he did his Detroit debut in 1946. After her marriage they moved to Richmond, Michigan where Olive landed her first newspaper job at the Richmond Review as a reporter. She then worked at the Macomb Daily and ultimately at the Detroit News where she worked as a printer until her retirement in 1987. As a proud member of the International Typographical Union, Olive recently received her 50 year pin.
During these years she raised 4 children, drove from Memphis to Detroit daily to work on the midnight shift and in 1964 moved the family to a house she bought in Fraser, Michigan. She actively encouraged and supported each of her 4 children to pursue an instrument and play in the Fraser High School band. In the 1970's she was honored as "Band Mother of the Year".
