Shirley Jean Curcuru

Shirley J. Curcuru, age 91, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, passed away on December 23, 2023. She was the beloved wife for 66 years to the late Sam N. Curcuru; Loving mother of the late David (Sara) Curcuru, Michael (Joan) Curcuru, Karen (the late Kevin) Sorgeloos, Joyce Taubitz, Sam J. Curcuru, and the late Nicholas Curcuru; Treasured grandmother of Melissa (Amanda) Sorgeloos, Kristy (Paul) Maiorana, Jeff (Amanda) Sorgeloos, Mark Curcuru, the late Angela Taubitz Marshall, Lisa (Ryan) Stallsmith, Michael Sorgeloos, Elizabeth (Corey) Stearns, Stephanie Curcuru, Sammy Curcuru, and Avery Curcuru. Cherished great-grandmother of Andrew, Brandon, Alex, Aaron, Ryan, Olivia, Emily, Aiden, Paige, Dominick, Miles, Owen, Leah, April and Damon.

Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan to Clarence and Helen Adams on January 25, 1932. Shirley loved to be active in life. She played golf and tennis and was president of her tennis leagues in both Michigan and Florida. Shirley also had an artistic side, teaching herself how to play piano and to paint. She enjoyed time out on the water and was part of the Clinton River Boat Club and The Olde Club.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake Street, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. Gathering time will begin at 9:30 AM until time of mass at 10:00 AM. Shirley will be placed at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township next to her husband Sam.
