Thomas James Genord, age 77, of Clinton Township, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. Born on September 18, 1948, in Detroit, Tom lived a life marked by devotion to his faith, his family, and his community.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dolores and Joseph Genord. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, June, who was his constant source of love and strength through every season of life. Together they built a beautiful life filled with adventure, moving across the country, raising three children, settling down in Michigan and facing life’s challenges hand in hand. In 2012, after suffering a serious head injury, Tom miraculously recovered—relearning how to walk and talk and blessing his family with 14 more treasured years. Anyone who knew Tom knew his stubborn will and determination. Once he set his mind to something, there was no stopping him.
Tom was a proud and loving father to Jeff Genord (Kelly), Nancy Yeo (Robert), and Peter Genord (Kate). He was also a devoted brother to Lynnette (Phil), Cheryl (Larry), Kathleen (Michael, predeceased), and Laurie (Dr. Martin). He cherished his many nieces and nephews and the special bonds he shared with each of them.
Of all his titles and accomplishments, his favorite was “Papa.” His grandchildren—Gabriel (Amber Girard), Cougar Milkowski, Carrie Weeks (Terry), Lillian and Aaron Yeo, Eli and Dallas Genord—and his great-grandson, Sladen Weeks, were the lights of his life. He could often be found on the floor playing games, laughing loudly, and trying to sneak a few of their treats. His playful spirit and deep love for them will remain a lasting gift.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1975 as a radio operator and instructor on the USS Guadalcanal. After his military service, he dedicated over 30 years to Michigan Bell, now known as AT&T, where he specialized in repairing pay phone booths before retiring.
A man of deep faith and service, Tom was an active member of the Lakeshore Knights of Columbus Council 2733, serving as Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, and in many other leadership roles. He gave generously of his time and talents, forming friendships and strengthening his community through his involvement.
Tom was also an avid sports fan who faithfully rooted for the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Detroit Red Wings. Win or lose, he remained loyal—just another testament to his steadfast nature.
