Wanda Matilde Galia, a loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on July 31, 2024 at the age of 90. She was the beloved wife of fifty years to Ignatius (d. 2010). Mother of JoAnna of Cottonwood, AZ, Dominic of Rochester, MI, and Lori of Spanish Fort, Alabama. The loving grandmother to Caitlin, Garrett, Austin, Joshua, Delaney, and Harrison.
Wanda was born in Newark, NJ and was raised in Casalvieri, Italy by her loving parents Clelia and Francesco, with her siblings Teresa, Maria, and Pompeo. Her lifelong dream was to become an elementary school teacher, and after earning her teaching diploma, she fulfilled that dream. Upon returning the United States, she began her teaching career at St. Elizabeth.
To all who knew Wanda, her passion for the Italian language and culture was a lifelong love that extended well beyond her early days as an elementary school teacher. She dedicated herself to teaching Italian to people of all ages and diverse backgrounds, sharing her knowledge across multiple generations. Wanda’s enthusiasm for bringing people together and embracing life, family, and friends will be deeply missed.
A funeral service for Wanda will take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 10:00 am at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township, MI. Friends may visit the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 9:00 am. She will be placed to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.
