Mac attended Springfield’s St. Mary’s Parochial School, where he was an altar boy. In 1968 he graduated from North High School, and later that year he joined the Air Force. He was stationed at Sheppard AFB, Texas. Upon completion of his tech school, he was selected to be an instructor in the Air Cargo Specialist area. They only picked the top graduates. He was deployed to Vietnam in 1970, and on the night of February 24, 1971, a C-130 aircraft was destroyed in a rocket attack while he and his crew were taking a break after off-loading the cargo from that aircraft. God was watching out for him and his crew. After Vietnam he was stationed at Norton AFB, California.
In 1972, after he was discharged from the Air Force he settled down in southern California, where he married Kathy Diekhoff (McLellan). In 1976 they moved to Fresno, California where he attended Fresno State and played on their baseball team. They had 2 daughters, Kristen Hagenow (McLellan), and Stacy Miller (McLellan). He was married to Kathy 17 years, and remained friendly and raised their daughters together.
In 1982, Mac graduated from Fresno State and began a career in banking & lending. In 1986 he moved to the automotive industry, working at Frontier Chevrolet, and in 1989 started a career at Clawson Honda where he worked in Finance for 28 years, before retiring in 2017.
Mac loved his sports! Mac played baseball in Little League for the VFW, Springfield North High School, Fresno State, and adult fast pitch softball. He was also an avid basketball player, golfer, and tennis player. He was on many bowling teams; most recently in Fall of 2022 with the Bonus Bucks, and Lonnie’s Friends and Family. He was very successful with a traveling tournament club the Silver Foxes, where he recorded a marquee game of 300. Through the decades working and playing sports he gained amazing friendships that he treasured until his final day. He also loved his Corvette!
Mac is survived by his daughter Kristen Hagenow (Josh); and his daughter Stacy Miller (Jason); his sister Teresa Thompson and his brother Larry McLellan (Rena); his granddaughter Hailey Hagenow and his grandson Mark Hagenow. He is preceded in death by his sister Regina Woods, and his parents.
