David Cannon went on to glory on February 4, 2025 at the age of 72.
He was known for his distinct laugh, helping others through his 41 years of work for The County of Fresno and the Shotokan Karate rank of Sandan; 4th Degree Black Belt, earning many awards and certifications under the training of Sensei Robert Haliburton of Way of Japan in Fresno, California.
He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
David Cannon's life was characterized by his distinct conceptual photography style; using humor, multiple exposure, and image manipulating filters (before Photoshop). He was always a student which usually lead to finding himself in the role of teacher.
He will be remembered for loving his Dad, dogs and treating everyone fairly.
A well respected Program Manager and driving force for client and employee dignity for more than forty years. He was Lead Capacity in development and implementation of notable programs such as GAIN. Welfare to Work, and the Affordable Care Act. David Cannon's cultural awareness and sensitivity were perfectly suited for his assignment as staff to the Board of Supervisors' Tri-County Human Resources Advisory Committee. This committee was appointed to formulate funding recommendations for community based organizations which provide a variety of direct service assistance and programs to multicultural residents of Fresno County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Jean Cannon; his loving first wife Olivia Perez Cannon; cousin Jerry Broyles; uncle Jerry "Buzz" Davis; and nephew John Geston. As well as many aunts and uncles.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 27 years Marlene Jones Cannon; his beloved sister Pat Geston and her husband Johnny; his nephew Tim Fillpot and his wife Lillian and their children Amanda, Brandon, David, and Andrew; his nephew Dan Fillpot and his wife Rachel and their children Joseph and Kerstin; his nephew Mark Geston and his children Ayden and Armani; cousins Ronnie, Donnie, and Arlene Brillhart; and his uncles Clyde Broyles, his son Kelly and his wife Julie and their children and Bobby Cannon of Arkansas.
A Celebration of Life for David will be held Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Japan Ways Traditional Karate, 5721 North First Street, Fresno, California 93710.
