Edwin A. Horanic was born on March 21, 1926 in Erie, Pennsylvania. He passed away on March 2, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Velma, son Eddie, his wife Barbara Ann, and granddaughters Leiasa, Emma, and Sydney.
Ed loved adventure and had a great since of humor. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1943 and fought in the Pacific theater of World War II as a flight crew member of the 430th Bomb Squadron, 502nd Bomb Group, 315th Wing. He also served in the Korean conflict in the same capacity and served in the Air Force for 24 years.
He married Velma Etheridge in Topeka Kansas on March 17, 1953. They lived in a number of locations including Sacramento, Turkey, Albuquerque, and San Antonio during Ed's military career.
While in the service he earned an undergraduate degree in San Antonio Texas and an MBA from the University of Omaha in 1962.
After retiring in from the Air Force in 1968, Ed moved his family to Fresno and began his career as Personnel Officer for the City of Fresno. He and Velma became members of the First Baptist Church of Clovis in 1969 and made many lifelong friends. He retired from the City in 1986 and along with Velma spent the summers up at Shaver Lake, California and the winters here in Fresno. Ed loved to fish, cut wood, and work on the cabin at Shaver. He was always active and enjoyed having people around.
Ed loved his family and worked hard to take care of them. As his son, I am forever grateful of the love, guidance, knowledge, and opportunity he provided me throughout my life. I have watched him care for my Mom, especially over the last 4 years. His devotion and caring epitomized what a relationship and family should be. Mom, I and my family know how much he loved us. We also witnessed his unwavering faith in God. He had always said that it was up to the Lord on how long he should remain in this world.
We will miss you Dad, but we will carry on. We will continue to do our best, something you always instructed us to do. We are your legacy and we are grateful for all that you have done us and so many others during your time on earth.
