Vera P. Morillo, 90, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2023 in Fresno, California. She was a lifelong resident of the Central San Joaquin Valley. Vera was born in Delano, CA to Arcadio and Hermelinda Estrada on March 26, 1933. She was one of 14 children. Vera met her husband, Alex, in Lindsay, CA where they married, built a home, and raised a family. After her and Alex retired, they moved to Badger, CA where they enjoyed the mountain life. Vera had many stories about new friends, beautiful wildflowers, and animals she encountered on their property. More recently, Vera and Alex had resided at the California Armenian Home in Fresno, CA.
As a young adult, Vera enjoyed playing softball and was a member of the Lindsay women’s softball league. She worked for the City of Lindsay, CA as a police dispatcher, later as an aide at Monache High School in Porterville, CA and finally as an aide at Sunnyside Union Elementary School in Strathmore, CA for 25 years. She loved working with kindergarten students and had many stories to share about the funny things that the children would say to her.
Vera loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping and hiking in the mountains. She would spend weeks at a time, with family, at Camp Nelson, Pot Wisha, and Grant Grove campgrounds. The grandchildren have many stories and memories of camping, crafting, and painting with Grandma Vera. Vera was an avid animal lover and always had a dog and cat as part of her family.
Vera is preceded in death by her husband Alex of 69 years and infant son Steven Matthew.
She leaves her son, Michael Morillo and daughter-in-law M’Lissa; her daughter Darcelle Snodgrass and son-in-law Andy; her daughter Michelle Nicholas and son-in-law Steve; and grandchildren Emily Morillo, Matthew Snodgrass, and Benjamin Nicholas.
The family would like to thank the staff at the California Armenian Home and Compassionate Care Hospice for the care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to your local SPCA or animal shelter.
