Harry George Jaeger II departed this life on October 8, 2023, at the age of 97. Harry was born in Union City, New Jersey, on March 30, 1926. He was the second-born child to Harry George Jaeger and Helen Triebel.
Harry's upbringing along the Hudson River during the height of the Great Depression was undoubtedly challenging. At the age of five, Harry and his eldest sister, Ruth, lost their mother during the birth of his youngest sister, Muriel.
In 1942, at the age of 16, Harry met Gloria Bruno. Their paths crossed Freshman year, at Union Hill High School in Fairview, New Jersey. Four years later, Harry and Gloria married. Their lives have been intertwined ever since.
Harry and Gloria were not only life partners but also the best of friends, travel companions, and loving parents.
Their life story is a beautiful example of a long and pure love that many aspire to have and few have achieved.
Aside from being a wonderful husband, Harry was a devoted family man. Harry passed on his warm smile, generosity, and work ethic to his daughters Ellen Jaeger and Janet Gilbert. His grandchildren, Jordan Gilbert and Danielle Pio, will forever remember his child-like humor, simple wisdom, and his endless optimism.
Harry's warm and welcoming nature, coupled with his ability to make strangers feel like old friends, indeed made him a perfect fit for the role of a postman. His impact extended beyond his family, touching the lives of everyone he encountered during his 30-year journey at the United State's Post Office.
In commemorating the life of Harry George Jaeger II, we share both grief for his passing and gratitude for his easy-going demeanor, boundless friendliness, and unwavering thoughtfulness.
