Joseph is survived by 4 sister’s; Suzanne Rodriguez, Emily Luna, Kathy Rodriguez, Melinda Grijalva and brother-in-laws Ernest Grijalva and Louie Hernandez. Joseph has (7) nieces and (4) nephews, (5) great nephews, and (1) great niece. He was Godfather to Eddie Moreno and Crystal Maldonado.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Margaret Rodriguez of Fresno, grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Guadalupe Salazar of Sanger, and Godparents Ralph and Sofie Lopez of Sanger.
Joseph was raised in Fresno. He was involved in Boy Scouts and was an altar server at Our Lady of Victory Church. He was a quiet and shy guy growing up. I remember our summer vacations going camping at Huntington Lake. Some of the memories of him are teaching his sister’s how to fish and how to clean a fish. I’ll never forget the driving lessons in his ‘65 Chevy Impala. He was a thoughtful big brother.
He graduated in 1976 from Fresno High School. He was part of the track team, and enjoyed running. He would run a few miles every day with our dog Gypsy for several years. He was a smart student and graduated with honors.
He began working in high school at grocery stores, and after graduating he continued to pursue different occupations. He was employed with the Dept. of Forestry, Edison Electric Co., and worked in the construction field for a while. He found his passion in truck driving. He was employed with various companies. One I recall was Bagdasarian Trucking. He’d haul grapes, tomatoes, onions, and strawberries throughout California. He took an interest in long haul and began to drive cross country with a partner. It was shortly after being injured on the job Joseph fell ill and was no longer able to pursue his passion of truck driving. I will cherish the memories of him taking pride in his trucks, cars and me and my sister’s helping him wash them, then he would generously pay us.
Our brother enjoyed a good time hanging out with his long-time buddies/family friends Eddie Flores and Roy Vallejo. He had many cherished memories of his brotherly friends. He also had a love of music which consisted of different genres but mostly enjoyed hard rock, now known as classic rock. I remember him blasting his music until our mother got home from work…smart guy! He enjoyed all sports and he was a Raiders and San Francisco Giants fan.
We’ll miss Joey’s easy going nature, his love and loyalty for his family and friends, and will remember him fondly as our protector; our big brother.
