She lived her 91 years surrounded by friends and family. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Richard (Dick) Precher, for 67 years before he passed on December 16, 2016. They started their married life in Minnesota, but moved to California shortly thereafter. They began their family of eight with daughter Michele Claxton of Clovis, CA, son Gary Precher, Cathy Dubowski (husband Ken) of San Diego, CA, Lori Pape (husband John) of Clovis, CA, and twins Mark Precher (wife Barbara) of Chowchilla, CA and Scott Precher (wife Dianne) of Winchester, CA. Joyce and Dick raised their family in Covina, CA, and moved to Placerville in 1977 where they lived until 2005. They moved to Lincoln, CA where they resided together until Dick passed. Joyce moved from Lincoln to Clovis, CA in 2019 to be closer to family, and lived there until her passing. She had nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Her son Gary Precher, granddaughter, Megan Bowman, her parents Roland and Irene Kampff, her brother Eugene Kampff, and son-in-law Bill Claxton preceded her in death.
Joyce was a beautiful wife, mother and friend. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always liked to make people laugh. She watched Joel Osteen on TV each Sunday morning for many years, and loved the jokes he told before he gave his sermons. She repeated many of them and laughed every time as if it was the first time she heard it! She wanted to be remembered as someone that never met a person she didn’t like, and left each person with a smile whether in person, by phone, or by sending cheerful letters.
Some of her accomplishments were receiving “Mother of the Year” award from the Parent-Teacher Association while her children were in school; nominated as homecoming Princess during her senior year of high school; she worked at Edina Bank in Minnesota (a job that she loved and talked about until a week before she passed); was scorekeeper at her son’s baseball games; she and Dick were members of the West Covina Kiwanis Club; was part of a bridge club that spanned many years. She and Dick worked together in the Accounting and Bookkeeping business they started in the early 1960’s, and continued into their 80’s.
She was a Christian all her life, and was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Covina, CA, First Lutheran Church in Placerville, CA, and St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Rocklin, CA. When she moved to Clovis, she lived at Solstice Senior Living. She was fortunate that they had their own church in the building, led by Pastor Blake Slater, which she enjoyed very much. She met many people at Solstice, both residents and staff members that made her smile and lifted her spirits when she wasn’t feeling well, and she did the same for them, living by her motto to leave everyone you meet feeling good and with a smile. She was very happy that Solstice was her final home.
She will forever be missed by those who knew and loved her. Rest assured, she is now living in a perfect heavenly body, resting in the arms of Jesus, and enjoying eternity with her loved ones that have gone before her.
