Julia passed away peacefully at the Carmel Village Memory Care facility in Clovis, California, on Monday, August 20, 2018. Born on October 4, 1926 in St. Paul, Minnesota, she was a resident of Fresno and Clovis, California for 67 years.
Julia was the eldest of three siblings. She lived through the World War II and the Great Depression. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great-great-grandmother.
She loved big band music and dancing, cheered passionately for her beloved Dodgers from the time they were in Brooklyn. She loved to bake all kinds of cookies and her specialty was strawberry pizzas. She also had an affection for Dolphins and on one occasion at Sea World got in the water so she could pet them. She was a wonderful and gentle soul who loved her family, friends and neighbors.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband Earl A. Checketts, Jr.
She is survived by her siblings Art and Faith Lealtad, her devoted son and wife, Mike and Verdayne Checketts, daughter Judith L. Ashby, Grandson, Sean and Bret, Granddaughters, Carrie and Jennifer, and many great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens, 175 S. Cornelia, Fresno, California on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 9:00 a.m.
