Linda Louie was on born May 4, 1948 in Fresno California. She was the oldest of nine children and oftentimes kept the rest of us in line while our parents worked in the family's restaurant. Linda was raised in Clovis, CA, attending Weldon Elementary School and graduating from Clovis High School, Class of 1966. One of her very first jobs during the early 70’s was as a waitress at a restaurant called Harvest House in Fashion Fair mall. Linda attended college and went on to graduate with her bachelor’s degree from Fresno State College. She began her career in social work, first working a number of years for the Fresno County Department of Social Services and eventually establishing her 35-year career as a social worker/analyst with the State of California.
Prior to retirement, Linda’s life was busy in the best possible way as she looked forward to providing weekly childcare for her niece, Veronica, and nephew, Jerry Jr., with each weekend bringing a new adventure for the trio. One of Linda’s greatest joys after retirement was going to the local theaters to watch the latest movies with her nephew, Jerry Jr.. She also loved attending movie premieres with her many “movie buddies” she befriended over the years. She was affectionately known by many as the “Candy Lady”, for always offering her friends and acquaintances a treat to satisfy their sweet tooth. Linda was very giving, always greeting you with a big smile and always acting with a sense of selflessness as she interacted with everyone around her.
Linda has 2 sisters, 6 brothers, 1 niece, 4 nephews and numerous brother and sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hung and June Louie and her younger sister, Jeannie. Linda is survived by her sister, Helen; her brothers, John and his wife Noy, Larry and his wife Vivian, Jerry and his wife Mely, Sister-in-law Jeanette, Leon, Paul and his wife Siewlin, and her little brother Gary; her niece, Veronica and her nephews, Jerry Jr., Andrew, Winjet, Cooper and Hogan.
Linda and her youngest baby brother, Gary, were very close and shared a rare sister/brother bond in which Linda provided love, care and nurturing to Gary from his earliest days through adolescence and adulthood. She spoiled him endlessly and Gary reciprocated his love for his sister with his unrelenting care that became more and more evident during these last 8 years as Linda’s mobility and health began to regress. After her stroke, Gary took an early retirement to become Linda’s fulltime caregiver. Over time, 24-hour care was needed, and Linda took residency at Carmel Village Assisted Living Facility, but after a long battle with Covid, was moved to Mrs. Scott’s Senior Care Facility. During this time, Gary did everything he could on a daily basis to provide her the best quality of life. This included cooking her dinner and feeding her daily. They would spend hours together watching her favorite television shows, which included Blue Bloods, SVU, CHIPS, Hawaii Five-0, NCIS, 911 and many others. Gary’s love and care were unconditional as he provided her with constant companionship, comfort and dignity until the moment she passed.
Remembrances can be made to the giver’s favorite charity in her name.
