Louis B. Chacon, (82), of Fresno California, suffered medical complications due to a longstanding illness and passed away on July 30, 2024, surrounded by family. Louis, fondly referred to as Guy, Tio-Uncle-Guy, Lou, Big Lou, Grandpa Lou, Grandpa "G", was born to Salvador L. and Carmen B. Chacon on July 7, 1942, in Brawley, California. He was a hard worker, beginning at a young age. While in elementary school he bought The Brawley News and turned around and sold it in the community. Louis was an alter server for the Catholic Church and was often called upon to serve his Catholic community even during school hours. He did so, without reservation.
Louis moved to the Fresno area in his teen years and attended Fowler High School where he excelled in sports. Specifically, he held the record, during his time, in the pole vault. At 18 years old, Louis volunteered to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was in the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion where he scouted, collected intelligence, including the use of submarines and jump teams. He also held a sharpshooter badge. Louis attended Fresno City College on the GI Bill and became a Tool and Die maker. He was a highly skilled, precise, manual machinist designing and crafting tools, dies, and molds.
Louis had an awesome sense of humor, loved to read facts, watch sports, attend sporting events at Fresno State, spend time with his family and travel. Most importantly he was a family man, he showed unconditional love, and could always be counted on, he made you feel like you were his favorite. He instilled values through his actions and did not hesitate to help anyone in need. He enjoyed all his grandchildren and helped not only raise his biological grandchildren but also his soulmates' eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is survived by his current sweetheart Charleen, his first wife MaryEllen Chacon, and preceded in death by his soulmate of 23 years, Beverly O'Hair (Bevie). Bevie inspired Louis to give up drinking alcohol and in turn Louis inspired those around him with similar challenges. He is survived by his son Louis M. Chacon, daughter-in-law Cindy Chacon, daughter MonaLisa Chacon Avila, son-in-law Antonio J. Avila, four grandchildren Isabella Chacon, Antonio Louis Avila, Clarisa Avila, and Christian Chacon. Two sisters, Norma Solano and Beatrice L. Chacon and preceded in death by his brother-in-law Ignacio Solano. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
There will be a private ceremony, remembering Louis B. Chacon in the presence of close family.
