Mildred M. Hudson passed peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, January 24th, at the Carmel Village Assisted Living Center in Clovis. She would have turned 96 on February 15th. Born in Mountain Home, Arkansas, to Jesse and Artie (Wilkins) Campbell, she outlived five brothers (James, Roy, Clois, Lloyd, and Gene) and three sisters (Daisy, Ruth and Veneda).
Mildred moved by train to San Diego, California, at age 18 with her infant daughter in January 1944 to join her beloved husband, Paul Hudson, also of Mountain Home, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. They had married on June 15, 1942. She and Paul lived the remainder of their lives together in Fresno, where they raised six children, four of whom she outlived. Paul was a long-time roofing supervisor of the Fresno City Unified School System facilities department. He passed away on May 1, 2002, six weeks before their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Pauletta Peters, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, and her son-in-law, Vernon Peters; and son, Lloyd Hudson, of Fresno and daughter-in-law, Anita Solis Hudson. She was preceded in death by sons James Monroe Hudson (1974), Robert Allen Hudson (1992), John Michael Hudson (2003), and daughter Cheryl Ann Hudson Pitman (2002). Grandchildren include Stacey Peters Barbe of West Bloomfield, James Hudson of Fresno, Amanda Hudson of Seattle, Deena Pitman Lopez and Shawn Pitman of Fresno, and Monica Hudson Reyes and Kimberly Hudson of Fresno; as well as multiple generations of great grandchildren.
Mildred was a humble servant of God, and an avid reader, especially of the Scriptures. She cultivated life-long friends through her selfless, caring manner. She was a wonderful cook in the Ozark tradition, and a devoted mother who was active in Parent-Teacher activities in the local Scandinavian School System and Fresno County School System. Over the years, she overcame a number of serious illnesses, but she exhibited a surprising toughness and finally succumbed to the frailties of old age. We mourn her death, but rejoice in her gaining the Kingdom of God.
