Nicholas McCabe Ubick (Nick) was born July 16, 1942, at Saint Agnes Hospital in Fresno, CA, the first child of Agnes and Nick Ubick of Clovis, CA. He passed away on July 12, 2025, with his family by his side.
Nick grew up on the family farm in Clovis in a house built by his father. He enjoyed the life of an only child for about five years, when the family grew to include his sisters Linda and Carolyn and brother Mike. He attended Kutner Elementary, which became Temperance-Kutner when the two small country schools combined. He graduated from Clovis High in 1960, then earned an AA degree from Fresno City College while working at the local Shell Service Station.
Nick enlisted in the Army National Guard of California and served from 1964-1970, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. He was proud of his service and actively supported Veterans throughout his life. He returned to school at Fresno State College and earned a BA in Industrial Arts.
After college, Nick married Marilyn Weber of Fresno, CA. They made a home and raised a family in Ceres, CA, while Nick built a career in the food processing industry holding a variety of management positions in production operations over more than 35 years at the Modesto plant known as CVC, General Foods, and later Kraft Foods. He worked in supply chain and distribution of products such as CVC dehydrated vegetables, Jello, Cool-Whip, Kool-Aid, Country-time Lemonade and Post cereals. Nick also worked at a refrigerated distribution center in Stockton, CA managing scheduling, distribution and logistics for Kraft Foods.
Family was always important to Nick. Family gatherings filled his childhood, and he remained close with his sisters and brother and many cousins. He took immense pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren in academics, music, dance, 4-H, and sports, attending as many of their events as possible, and celebrating their career and professional achievements.
Nick’s hobbies included sports, cars, and hunting. He played in Clovis Little League baseball & Clovis High basketball. Nick loved anything with a motor & wheels. He began collecting & working on Model A’s with his dad as a young teenager. Later, he devoted his efforts to faster vehicles, especially his 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 2-door hardtop and racing go-karts. Even in retirement, he continued his passion with friends at the Old Engine club.
