Raymond Jew, AKA Raymond Chow, was born in Los Angeles in 1932. He was only a month old when Raymond and his parents returned to Canton, China where they remained until 1939. The sight of Japanese warplanes was enough for his parents to decide to return to the United States. They settled in Seattle, Washington where he attended elementary school. It was difficult for Raymond because he did not speak English. However, he persevered with the help of a friend. His family later relocated to Los Angeles, California.
After graduating from high school in Los Angeles in 1951, he joined the US Navy where he served a 4-year tour as a Fire Control Technician. On March 26, 1955, eleven days after he left the Navy, Ray married Monica Chu. He attended Los Angeles Community College for 2 years after which he attended the University of Southern California. In January of 1960, he completed his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and joined Autonetics North American.
Ray’s accomplishments in his 44 year career with Autonetics North American/Rockwell/Boeing were numerous. During his time there he became the principal and eventually the only SINS (Ships Inertial Navigation System) engineer for Boeing and a primary mentor to the new engineers on the program.
Ray enjoyed many decades of league bowling with his wife Monica.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 70 years, Monica Jew; his son Randall Jew (Laurel) of Santa Rosa, California; his daughters Pamela Smith (William) of Clovis, California and Melody Jew of Fresno, California. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, three older sisters and two younger brothers.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
