While in high school Jack played varsity baseball and also summer league softball. After graduation, Jack joined the U.S. Navy for a four year term. He was stationed in Sasebo, Japan for two of his four years in the Navy. After he got out of the service, Jack made his home in the Fresno/Clovis area.
In 1958, he started his twenty-seven year career with the Clovis Police Department. During that time he advanced from patrol officer to lieutenant and retired in 1984.
Jack had one son, Roger W. McGaughy, who was born in Fresno and passed away in Texas in 2009.
In 1982, Jack met Brenda Davis on a blind date and they have been soulmates for over thirty-eight years.
Jack was a Fresno State season ticket holder for over forty years and attended home and numerous away games for football, basketball, baseball, and women’s softball. While with the Clovis Police Department and for years after retirement, Jack traveled to thirty-seven countries. He was vice-president of the local International Police Association for fifteen years.
Jack was a true Irishman, with twinkling blue eyes, a wonderful sense of humor, and loving devotion to family and friends. He had many stories that he could tell, but always said that most can’t be put in to print, just ask Paul.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Helen McGaughy, son Roger, niece Janice, nephew Jim, and numerous dear friends.
Surviving Jack is his significant other, Brenda Davis, niece Jayne Lemoine and Dave, stepdaughter Kelli Harrison, Brenda’s daughters and families, best friend Paul Rohrer and Bev, and other friends he thought the world of.
“Jack, you were the happiness that warmed my days, the friend that made my heart smile, and the soulmate who taught me the meaning of true love.” Love you, Brenda
