Born in California on April 12, 1970, Steven lived a life full of adventure, creativity, and quiet strength. He was a true jack-of-all-trades — and master of them all. No matter what kind of wheels it had, Steven could ride it, fix it, or build it. From motorcycles to ATVs, from machining to arborism, he was a man of action with a curious mind and steady, hard-working hands.
A true individualist, Steven lived life on his own terms. He was a member of the NRA, a proud flamethrower owner, and an enthusiast of the great outdoors — especially the mountains where he loved to ride and camp. Early mornings were sacred, often spent sipping coffee alongside his loyal pup, Jessie.
His passions were as varied as they were unique. Steven brewed his own beer and enjoyed a good Hazy IPA. He had an ear for music, from the gritty edge of 90’s grunge like Alice in Chains and Metallica to the smooth soul of Louis Armstrong. Navy blue was his color, and a well-whistled tune was his signature — a comforting sound that let loved ones know he was home.
A machinist by trade and a craftsman by nature, Steven could build or fix anything. But more than his skills, it was his warmth and generosity that made him unforgettable. He had a quiet charisma — the kind that made you feel like you’d known him forever, even if you’d just met. He made everyone feel like they were his favorite.
Steven valued his privacy, but those close to him knew the depth of his kindness, his witty sense of humor, and his loyalty. He loved late-night bonfires, stargazing with his partner Mandi Coburn, and quiet evenings in nature, far from the noise of the world.
Steven is survived by his beloved children, Sierra Kemp and Hayden Kemp, who were the pride of his life. He is also survived by his half-brothers, Kevin Hannah and Kenneth Hannah, along with numerous cousins, and dear friends who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Jane Kemp.
Steven’s legacy is one of authenticity, generosity, and genuine connection. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
The Kemp family encourages you to honor Steven by taking a scenic ride, firing up the grill or smoker, or simply sharing a moment of peace under the stars.
