Billie Sue graduated from Lufkin High School in 1951 and went on to attend Pineywood Business College. Billie Sue worked for a local insurance company prior to getting married in 1953. Her Husband, LD, was drafted in the US Army in 1953. He was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, where Billie Sue lived and supported her husband for several months until LD was relieved of service and they both returned home to the Lufkin area.
Bille Sue and LD relocated to the Angleton/Lake Jackson area in 1956 when LD started work with Dow Chemical. Billie lived in their home for 67 years and was a member of Angleton Road church of Christ until she relocated to Spring in March 2024 and became a member at Kleinwood church of Christ.
Billie Sue cared for her family and provided the loving care, structure, and support all families need to thrive. Billie Sue not only provided loving care for her family; she did the same for everyone that knew her, especially her brothers and sisters in Christ, family, friends, and neighbors.
From an early age, Billie Sue was passionate about her love for family, friends and service/devotion to Christ. Always with a kind heart and the Lord by her side, Billie Sue had a keen interest in those in need of support. When there were no longer any kids to take care and LD finally grew up, Billie started being a Nanny, Mamaw, Grandma, and caregiver to many.
Billie’s kind heartedness was never meant to be reciprocated. She would not expect anything in return. However, in her last few years Billie was a recipient of the same compassion, grace, service, and respect she so deserved while living at BeeHive Homes Assisted Living where she was a proud member of the “Golden Girls.”
Billie Sue is survived by her loving daughter and son-in law Lisa and Dean Strauser of Spring, Grandson and his partner Dylan Strauser and Kristen Webber, and Great Grandson Parker Strauser of Kingwood. Teammate and Twin Sister Betty Lou Goins of Victoria, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Billie Sue was preceded in her death by her loving Husband, Linwood D Smith, sons Greg Smith and Keith Smith; Parents Atma and Earl Keen, and Brother-in-Law Jack Goins.
Visitation will be held at Restwood Funeral Home at 1038 W. Plantation Drive, Clute, Texas at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, followed by her service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow.
