He was born January 22, 1957 in Manila, Philippines, to parents Benjamin and Victoria Orbase. After spending his childhood and teenage years in the Philippines, he came to the US in 1980 and married Linda Garcia Orbase in Freeport Texas, also in 1980.
Derick, or Tito Derick as he was affectionately known, never met a stranger. His gift was in making people laugh and making people feel special and loved. His huge heart was overflowing with generosity, and he would often give people the shirt off his back, no matter if they were strangers. He will be remembered for his passion for dancing, his love for singing and music, his impeccable eye for art and decorating, his delectable cooking, and overall, the endless amount of love he shared with friends and family. God truly gifted the man with the ability to make people smile, and that he did every day of his life. But amidst all the humor, there were also teachings of wisdom and a heart of pure gold.
He is preceded in death by both his parents Benjamin and Victoria Orbase, and three siblings, Warren, Barney, and Mildred Orbase, all of the Philippines. He is survived by two siblings, Jennifer Roque and Benji Orbase of the Philippines, his devoted wife of 37 years Linda Orbase of Freeport, his loving children Shane and Toni Orbase, and Sean and Christina White, of Lake Jackson, and 6 grandchildren, Sydney, Kaytlin, and Elijah Holmes, Jayden White, and Adrian and Benjamin Orbase. He also leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, friends, and friends he called family—all who adored him.
There will be a visitation on Thursday October 12th at Restwood Funeral Home (1038 W. Plantation Drive, Clute) from 6-8 pm and funeral services will be held Friday morning, October 13th at St. Mary’s Church in Freeport (1019 W. 6th Street) beginning at 11 am. The family would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming support they have already received during this difficult time.
