

Cristobal Pablo Cortez (Chris), age 48, of Katy, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 14th, 2022. Chris was born in Huntsville, Texas on August 24th, 1973 to Dr. Carlos and Gennie Cortez.
Upon graduating Brazoswood High School, he attended both Texas Tech and Sam Houston State Universities. Following in his father's footsteps he made a career working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He took great pride in wearing the uniform and worked in many facilities throughout Texas. Those that knew Chris would tell you he was a nostalgic person often times revisiting small towns he grew up in, listening to his beloved 80's music and reminiscing about childhood pastimes. He loved Brazoswood High School sports, investing much editing time with the Buc Baseball program. Everyone knew where to find Chris from April to October at his second home, Minute Maid Park. He loved his Houston Astros and fan site "Stros Bros and Sistas. But, his greatest love was his daughter Isabella Cortez (Bella). Chris loved spending time with Bella and she had no choice but to become an Astros fan. In some of Chris' final words to his brother he said, "Tell Everyone I Love Them." That was Chris....
Chris was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Carlos P. Cortez. He is survived by his daughter Isabella Cortez. Krystal Cortez. Mother Gennie Rangel Cortez. Brother Carlos Cortez Jr. (Sandra). Sisters Catharyn Milbrandt (James) and Cynthia Cortez. Niece Lauren Hathcock-Crottie (Kevin Jr.) and great-nephew Kevin John Crottie III.
Visitation and Rosary for Chris Cortez will be on Friday April 22nd from 5-8 PM at Dignity Restwood Memorial Park. Funeral Mass for Dr. Carlos P. Cortez and his son Chris Cortez will be on Saturday April 23rd at 10:30 AM at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Clute, TX. Both will be interred together at Dignity Restwood Memorial Park following the mass. Reception will follow immediately at St. Jerome Church Hall.
Pallbearers will be cousins Mike Cortez, Joe Cortez, Esteban Gonzales, Jaime Garza and friends Frank and Julio Melchor.

Carlos P. Cortez, age 77, of Palestine, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on March 22, 2022. He was born in Beeville, TX on June 28, 1944 to Armando and Lucia Cortez.
He made education his career and passion. After graduating Alvin Jr. College and the University of Houston, he earned his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Sam Houston State University. He earned his 2nd Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Houston Baptist University. He received his Doctor of Education in Bilingual Education from Texas A&I University in 1982.
He taught at Brazosport ISD, Kingsville School District and Lon Morris College with a Fellowship at Sam Houston State University. He also taught at Windham School District for 40 years. Beto North School proclaimed on May 23rd, 2006, to be “Doc Carlos Cortez Day.”
He was heavily involved with the Green Room Group of Palestine. He spent a great part of his time befriending a great many people and touched their lives with advice, leadership and a counseling ear.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mike Cortez Jr, sister Alicia Ortiz (Henry) and his brother-in-law Romeo Barrera. He is survived by his former wife Gennie Rangel-Cortez. Sons Carlos Cortez Jr. (Sandra) and Christobal Cortez (Krystal). Daughters Catharyn Milbrandt (James) and Cynthia Cortez. Sisters Alma Gonzales (Oliver) and Andrea Barrera and sister-in-law Gloria Cortez. Granddaughters Lauren Hathcock and Isabella Cortez and great grandson Kevin John Crottie III.
Per his wishes, he was cremated. Rosary and Visitation was at Bailey-Foster Funeral Home in Palestine, TX. Funeral Mass was at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palestine, TX. Both services were conducted by Father Jonathan Freis. Dr. Carlos P. Cortez will be interred with his son at Dignity Restwood Memorial Park.
