David was born in Waco, TX in 1938 to David Rankin Head and Dixie Corine Head. He graduated from Waco High School in 1957. Shortly after graduation he moved to Lake Jackson, TX to work for Dow Chemical Company. It was here that he met and married the love of his life, Patricia Lynn Streetman in 1962. David and Pat raised 3 “fabulous” children, as David proudly called them.
David went on to open a convenience store named David’s Food Mart in Richwood, TX. This venture was brought to a halt after he suffered a gunshot wound during a robbery at the store. Against the odds he recovered from this devastating event and went on to work for more than 30 years in the crane rental business. David was active in local politics taking on the positions of Richwood City Councilman, Mayor of the City of Richwood and Brazoria County Commissioner, Pct. 1.
David loved “projects” and working with his hands. He spent countless hours in his garage building and rebuilding everything from a motor to dining tables. After retiring David never lost his love for working with his hands. He spent time building furniture for his family and friends. Even at the end of his time on earth, David maintained a keen sense of humor and made sure to demonstrate his wit to the wonderful nurses at Houston Methodist Hospital. He spent his last days surrounded by family and friends and spent every second knowing how deeply he is loved and telling his family how much he cherished them.
David is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Head, his parents, David Rankin and Dixie Corine Head, and his sister Sally Head Lockhart. He is survived by his children Cindy Lowery and her husband Benny, Keith Head and his wife Lynn and Shelley Johnson and her husband Dan. Left to carry on his humor and wit are his grandchildren Lindsey MacAllister (Sean), Josh Lowery (Katelyn), Amber Head, Ashlyn Head, Caitlyn Johnson, Kylie Johnson and his great-grandchildren, Mason Jaynes, Brooklyn MacAllister, Jayse MacAllister, Johnsie Lowery and Koraline Lowery, special niece and nephew Carol Bailey and Parker Lockhart and brother-in-law, Bud Lockhart.
Our Dad possessed such a positive outlook on life even through his many struggles. His lesson to us is this: “Worry is worthless. If you can’t do anything about it then stop worrying and move-on. If you can do something about it, DO IT!”
