Evelyn “Shug” Ruth Larson Williams passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 29, 2025. Shug was born December 6, 1934, in Freeport, Texas to the late Daisy Ann Larson (Perkins) and the late Hjalmar Emmanuel Larson.
Shug and her family lived in Oyster Creek, Texas. Shug married her one and only love Carl Ralph Williams on December 22, 1951. Ralph joined the Naval Reserves to help pay for college and was called into service after his sophomore year in college and called to duty a few weeks after being married. Shug graduated from Freeport High School in 1952. Upon leaving the Navy, Shug and Ralph moved to College Station, Texas and Ralph went to Texas A&M University to study mechanical engineering. Lynn was born in 1954. After Ralph graduated from Texas A&M in May 1956 and went to work for Dow Chemical, they relocated to Lake Jackson, Texas. Rickey Dale was born shortly after. Their third child, Tanner Jay, was born two years after Rickey. Ralph and Shug had been married for 71 years when Ralph passed away in 2022 and she still receded in the same house that Ralph built in Lake Jackson until shortly before her death.
Shug has been a faithful and obedient Christ follower since giving her life to the Lord as a young teenager. Her life was devoted to her family and to Christ. She was a faithful servant to the Lord in the Freeport, Lake Jackson, and Angleton communities in different Assembly of God churches and capacities including being a founding member of Shady Oaks Assembly of God in Lake Jackson. In 1972 Ralph’s passion to advance the kingdom become focused on reaching, teaching, and keeping boys for Christ in the Royal Ranger ministry of the Assemblies of God. Shug stood by Ralph’s side and grasped the mission fully and became a leader focusing on the youngest boys in the organization. Shug and Ralph were active in the Royal Ranger ministry until 2022, when Ralph’s body just gave out on him and Shug became his caregiver. She served the Royal Ranger ministry faithfully for 50 years. She is now rejoicing with the Lord.
Shug was preceded in death by her mother, Daisy Ann Larson (Perkins); father, Hjalmar Emmanuel Larson; sister, Daisy Fern Boatman; sister, Beauhla May Kieke; brother, Herman Larson; brother, Aurther Coleman (Bubba) Larson; niece, Shirley Fern Buhrman; beloved husband, Carl Ralph Williams and beloved son, Tanner Jay Williams.
Shug is survived by daughter Lynn Gail Mandeville and her husband Scott; and son, Rickey Dale Williams and his wife Lisa; Grandchildren, Larson Giloth Mandeville and his wife Emma; Nelson Ford Mandeville; Chase Ryan Williams; Lauren Michelle Hinkle and her husband Justin; Eric Raymond Dube and his wife Kendra; Taryn Rae Gomez (Williams) and her husband Felipe Javier “Philip”; Tanner Jay Williams Jr and his wife Victoria Nicole; Jordan Ray Williams and his wife Jaiy Nicole; and Shawn Berkley; Great grandchildren; Elimnia Rose Mandeville; Elizar Valen Mandeville; Olivia Renae Hinkle; Madilyn Rae Gomez; Sebastian Manuel Gomez; Jasper Jay Williams; Jagger Ray Williams; Jaxon Patrick Williams; Rosalie Ann’Renay Williams; Tanner Jay Williams 3rd; and Brayden Harold Williams.
A memorial service to honor Shug will be held at Central Assembly of God Church in Angleton Texas on Saturday February 8 at 11:00 am.
