

Gladys Jean (Cowart) Miller, age 80, a long time Lake Jackson resident, departed this life to be with our Lord and Savior on January 18, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Gladys was born on November 25, 1931 in Beaumont, Texas to Sallie and John Cowart. She graduated from Kirbyville High School in 1950 and later Business College in Beaumont, Texas. She married the love of her life, Gordon Miller, in 1952. They first lived in Freeport but moved to Lake Jackson in 1956. Gladys worked a few years before becoming a stay at home mom. The family relocated to Russellville, Arkansas in 1972 when Gordon transferred with Dow. They enjoyed living in Arkansas but were excited to return ”home” to Lake Jackson in 1977. Gladys was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson and she loved her Sunday school class. Gladys enjoyed playing bridge, reading, dancing and staying active with family, community and church activities. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Brazosport Hospital for several years. Gordon and Gladys enjoyed camping in their travel trailer and later enjoyed taking tours and cruises with friends and family. Those who knew her well thought of Gladys as caring faithful and spiritual. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Fred Thomas (Pete) Cowart. Survivors include husband, Gordon R. Miller; son Jerry of Lake Jackson; daughter Janet and her husband, Jerry D. Edmondson of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Thomas Edmondson of Seattle, Washington, Michael Edmondson of Dallas, Texas; great grandchild, Cassidy Edmondson of Richwood. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Betty Louise Aden and her husband Alfred of Beaumont, Mrs. Johnnie Fay Aden of Houston; several nephews and close friends, Connie and Jerri Courtney. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be officiated by Reverend Ross Poteet at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Restwood Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will precede this service from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Graveside services, conducted by Reverend Donnie Courtney, will be at the Kirbyville Cemetery in Kirbyville, Texas on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 11:30 am. The family wishes to thank friends for the prayers, flowers, food, cards and well wishes during her recent illness.
