John founded Penney Electric in Odessa, Texas in 1964, and operated the business for over 25 years. He was an avid hunter who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, and he often shared his opinions of the players' on-field efforts. He favored old gospel hymns, and could be heard singing along with them... among his favorites was "What a Day That Will Be."
John was born on July 20, 1926, in Portsmoth, New Hampshire and raised in Freeport, Texas. He was one of 11 siblings. He is survived by his son, John Penney II (Vicki) and daughter Gail Adams (Mark), 4 Grandsons, Charley Penney (Karla), Kyle Penney (April), John Richardson (Ashley) and David Adams as well as 5 great-grandchildren Justin, Sarah, Joseph, Sadie, and Eli Penney. He is survived also by 1 brother, Roy Penney (Nancy) of Conroe, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at Restwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Clute, Texas on Saturday, September 22, 2018. Viewing at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Charley Penney, Kyle Penney, David Adams, Justin Penney, Joseph Penney, and Eli Penney.
