Our beloved “Mom” & “Mimi”, Lola Christine Travis, 79, of Sugar Land, Texas quietly passed into her Savior’s arms early Sunday morning, January 16, 2011 at Methodist hospital in Sugar Land. Chris, as she is known by all her friends and family, a beautiful spirit, a kind hearted person, a woman who valued a close personal relationship with her Savior and someone who had a keen sense of fairness toward all, loved her family and friends with all her heart. She was so happy with the birth of her three great grandchildren over the last few years and never happier than when she just sat and holding those precious babies. Chris had a heart as big as Texas and was always so proud of her family’s Texas heritage. She was very proud to be the granddaughter of North Texas oilman Tm C. Davis and wife Vina. She loved to tell stories of how she would take train trips in her younger days to Snyder, Texas to visit her grandparents and said her grandfather always told her if you cut any member of the family, they would probably bleed oil. In her later years, she simply took pleasure in staying in-doors reading and writing many stories of her family and cooking. She was famous for her chocolate and coconut pies and always had an unbelievable roast beef prepared whenever her grandchildren would come to visit.
Chris was born Lola Christine in Refugio, Texas in 1931 to Grover and Nellie Moulton. The family later moved to Velasco, Texas and she graduated from Freeport High School in 1949. In 1950 she married Frank Travis, Jr. and had two children, Susan in 1952 and Michael nearly 8 years later. In 1990 Chris moved to Sugar Land where she made many, many friends through the Sweetwater Ladies Club and St. Laurence Catholic Parish. Always a numbers genius, she was a very successful investor and loved spending time with her women’s group in Sugar Land. Chris will be so greatly missed by her loving family, many dear friends and scores of others who will cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her parents, Grover and Nellie Moulton; her sister, Zoe Nell Atwood; grand nephew, Christopher Spiller; brother-in-law, Robbie Spiller; brother, Jack Hoyt Moulton and recently, her much beloved little sister, Johnnie Mae Muse. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Joe Klinkovsky III of Damon; her son, Michael Travis of Houston; very much beloved grandchildren, Amy Klinkovsky of Los Angles, Joe Klinkovsky IV of Houston, Nikki and Brandon Wuertz of The Heights, Courtney Ward of San Antonio and Holly Travis of Olympia, Washington. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Wyatt Wuertz, Kylie Ward and Bennett Wuertz. Lastly, but far, far from least is her sister, Neva Lee Spiller of Antascocita who was by Chris’s side for every minute of her illness and her very, very special aunt, Alma Smith of Wharton whom she referred to as “Sis” because of the proximity of age. The family wishes to acknowledge the exceedingly wonderful care given by the loving doctors and nurses at Methodist Hospital, Sugar land during her last couple of weeks on Earth. Thank you.
